4 Things to Celebrate

Greater>Than Values

  1. The Hybrid Designer

I’m not a fan of people being siloed into any one category, as we’re all quite obviously armed with more than one skill set.  At Greater>Than you’ll be encouraged to use your varied talents to inform your work, which will ultimately give unique spin and added depth to your projects.

For instance, if you’re a graphic designer, but you also illustrate, bring that into your work! Same goes for animators, photographers, videographers, product designers, journalists, etc! Let your strengths come out to play!

2. Sharing Your Voice

Under an authorship approach, you have full agency over your work, which means you get to solve design problems of your making while following a real-world process. This means no pre-designated briefs! Instead, your projects reflect your voice, so you get to choose what is meaningful discourse. For example, these projects could relate to your hobbies or your cultural identity, or they could center on social and/or political issues you find relevant. Choosing your subject matter will ensure you’re fully invested!

3. Getting Personal

Greater>Than exists somewhere between a University model and Skillshare. What sets it apart is the numbers. It’s just you and me. Not an overpacked in-person classroom where it’s hard to get access to and attention from instructors. It’s not a pre-recorded online class where the numbers are even higher and the accountability and feedback low. Instead, My personalized teaching method relies solely on super extensive one-on-one weekly critiques. And no two critiques are the same because no two of you are either.

4. Learning Through Doing

I’ve found the best way to teach design is by fostering an environment conducive to a creative play space. A space where we work really, really hard, try lots and lots of things, and embrace the process. Through each iteration and each critique, you’ll begin to find your way. You’ll learn and remember design techniques when you actually run into the problems in real-time, where they will be pointed out and explained!

These four things are totally worth celebrating because when you’re allowed to use your multiple skill sets to work on a topic that truly interests you combined with dedicated hard work from both YOU and ME, seriously amazing things start happening.
